If African-Americans are angry, they have a right to be. Just look how they are treated... It's not the segregated bathrooms and lack of voting rights anymore. Instead, it's the nasty looks they get. How they can see that people subconsciously stand further away from them and momentarily freeze in fear when they walk up to ask a simple question. And mostly, it's how ignorant folks like you continually make comments saying that it's their fault that this happens. They get all of this from the day they are born; OF COURSE they are going to grow up angry. Put yourself in their shoes. If you grew up in a world where you could tell you were treated differently than others just because your skin happens to be pigmented differently -- it clearly has NOTHING to do with your behavior -- you would be too.

Let's all take a step back and think bigger for a moment. Especially you, Anonymous. I assume we have all heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy. If not, I will explain it. It is when someone has expectations of you (REGARDLESS of whether or not they are known to you) and their behavior towards you, in turn, influences the way you behave. If you grew up being treated like you were about to commit a crime at any minute, you just can't win. If you are not committing a crime, people are just sitting and waiting for you to do so, watching you, glaring, following you in convenience stores to make sure you aren't stealing, regardless of your own actions. And if you do commit a crime, you prove them right. After a while of this -- like say, eighteen years of it -- isn't it easier to just give in? You can't change their minds anyway. Why not just give up?

We all do this in little ways. Boss thinks I'm lazy? Fine, I'm leaving early today. Friend thinks I spend too much time with my boyfriend? Fine, I'm ditching her for him tonight. Wife thinks I spend too much time at the office? I'll show her what "too much time" really means!

Or, in my case in high school: My parents think I'm a bad kid because I failed one math test? Fine. I'm going out drinking tonight. I'll show them just how good they've got it.

I am not saying that African-Americans who do commit crimes don't deserve jail. They do, just as people of any other race who commit crimes do. Everyone is in control of their own actions. I am just saying, the disproportionate ammount of African-American men in jail (which seems to be a frequently cited statistic around social media today) could have something to do with this. There is nothing inherently inside African-American indivuduals that makes them more prone to crime. The answer lies entirely in the fact that they are treated with suspicion from the day they are born.

This is only one point in a long debate that America's attention has turned to today. Please, just think about this. Do some soul-searching. Ponder it with an open mind.

"If you are dumb, surround yourself with smart people. If you are smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14345350.post-56652976062592590182013-07-16T13:03:11.368-04:002013-07-16T13:03:11.368-04:00Very curious to know your opinion on whether the v...Very curious to know your opinion on whether the verdict might have been different if the charge was manslaughter vs. 2nd degree murder. Tragic story but what seems more tragic is the way the media has turned this whole thing into a race thing. I'm Asian-American and have not been following the story closely. Look up gun death statistics and how few people die from gunshot wounds vs people who are shot, police have unloaded into people who survived... and zimmerman aimed at center mass, a shot even less likely to kill, from that range and position he could have easily shot him in the head without a problem, the likelihood of dying from one shot to center mass is really low, even if the heart is hit.Pandaglossianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10806793391465533479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14345350.post-65465171224386555132013-07-15T20:04:58.047-04:002013-07-15T20:04:58.047-04:00Brian,
I haven't practiced law in over 25 yea...Brian,

I haven't practiced law in over 25 years. During practice I ran a solo general practice (in Washington State) and only rarely handled a criminal case. Furthermore, I have mostly been ignoring this case and only recently took a look at the evidence. Yet, it seems to me that this case is so clear cut that a first-year law student could call it! There simply never WAS any case. It is reprehensible that charges were filed, including for the reason that it has undoubtedly increased the pain for the Martin family!

So why the hordes of celebrity-lawyers screaming nonsense? Many commenters have stressed the incompetence of the MSM. I don't think so. I think one person nailed it with the statement that they seem to believe the rule is guilty until proven innocent, and then only with their approval. The MSM has drifted very far to the Left, so they DON'T believe in the criminal justice system because they DO NOT believe in the rights of the individual! To the MSM, only the GROUP has rights. So, of course this tragedy was going to be spun as a racial issue. The approximately 50 murders in Chicago over the Fourth of July holiday were black on black, so identity politics is not involved, so they don't care. Do you have sadistic tendencies? It's true that an overwhelming public are not legally savvy, that's how lawyers make their livings no? You should be thankful that there are people like those around bringing you businesses so stop being ungrateful. It's also true that people like Nancy Grace and co. gave the public a false sense of comprehending the legal system and can be annoying at times but that also makes your job so much more valuable, interesting and worthwhile. Don't you get the satisfaction of educating your clients correcting their misconceptions? If everyone goes "o no, he can't be tried for the same thing because of double jeopardy so let's go out and riot instead" then where would we be? OR...if he had been at home. I place part of the blame on his parents. His mother had sent Trayvon to live with his father because he did not respect her, and she had no control over him. He had been kicked out of school and was a drug user. Why was he unsupervised, allowed to have/use a cell phone, and allowed to go to the store for Skittles and tea? Perhaps if his parents had disciplined their child and taught him to respect himself...none of this would ever have happened.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14345350.post-42250574778209279972013-07-15T19:50:03.299-04:002013-07-15T19:50:03.299-04:00following your time line only as I didn't see ...following your time line only as I didn't see or follow this trial. you helped the Zimmerman case, he's 28 seconds away from his vic. at one point then the fight is only 10 sec from the vic. this put Zimmerman closer to his truck so he had to retreat and martin had to follow Zimmerman. the flaw in this, is a time only reference. he was running at one point walking at others so one needs a distance( witness needed to place both men ). this sounds like a case of very little to go on, only the statements of the parties involved and one of them can not speak. I don't think Martin was merely trying to show Zimmerman he was a faster runner, no he was in fear. Fear is a what that entire statute seems to be about.

Zimmerman continued pursuing Martin because he didn't return to his truck. The altercation took place within 10 seconds of Zimmerman's truck as seen in the video of the investigators with Zimmerman at the scene. That leaves 3.5 minutes of Zimmerman continuing his pursuit of Martin. I'm sorry, but that certainly can cause substantial emotional distress that serves no legitimate purpose. btwisted ~ Exquisite Handcrafted Jewelryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02081220725262579299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14345350.post-20508349422902147742013-07-15T18:33:23.677-04:002013-07-15T18:33:23.677-04:00There is absolutely no evidence that Zimmerman eve...There is absolutely no evidence that Zimmerman ever attacked Trayvon prior to shooting him in self-defense. The prosecution couldn't even put together a story of how Trayvon could have been at least a block, perhaps two, ahead of Zimmerman and headed home, then somehow ended up near Zimmerman's car beating him up.

Did Zimmerman chase him down then force him at gunpoint back to his car. After that he again forced Trayvon (at gunpoint) to punch him a few times so it looked good before shooting him?

Ot perhaps Trayvon overpowered Zimmerman briefly after having been forced back to the car, only to get shot in the end.

This is so completely ridiculous and without a single shred of evidence supporting it that the prosecution never presented it. If they had their case would become so clearly a sham that they would have been laughed out of court.

Instead they had to pursue an attack on Zimmerman's character and try to discredit his story without offering any alternative at all.

Any account has to include that Trayon was a significant distance away from Zimmerman, headed even further away then ended up next to him with Zimmerman beaten up.

The only account I have heard that makes any sense is Zimmerman's.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14345350.post-50823121536782261852013-07-15T18:03:50.697-04:002013-07-15T18:03:50.697-04:00it is the south.
