Man hit by truck, then ticketed for jaywalking
A man who was hit by a truck near the city's downtown was also slapped with a citation. Boise police ticketed Ebrahim Balah, 62, for jaywalking shortly after the accident Wednesday.
Police said Balah suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Police said he was hit by a passenger truck while trying to cross a busy one-way street. Officials said the section Balah tried crossing is not a designated walkway and pedestrians are not permitted to cross.

Although you got to feel bad for the guy getting hit by a truck, it's still no excuse to omit him from a ticket. We don't let drunk drivers off the hook when they crash into other people, even though they totaled their car and probably broke 1/2 the bones in their body.
ReplyDeletebackground checks need to accurately reflect all crimes committed, either way.
Actually, that's not completely true, and is one of my pet peeves in the criminal justice system. Even the current US Attorney General said recently that not every "violation of law is a criminal offense."
ReplyDeleteAbout a year ago a kid was driving drunk and went through a guard rail. He is paralyzed for life and on dialysis. While it was DUI Property Damage, the officer used his discretion and didn't charge him.
He is lucky it didn't happen in Orange County Florida, they would have charged him with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
